Great Place to Start

This was the first gay bar I've ever been too, and even though my timing was poor, (I got there way too early), the bar tenders were great, and it had a down to earth bar feel. I'm sure it gets crazier later in the night with the dance floor, so there's something for everyone. I'm looking for a good time to go back soon I hope. The bartenders were great when I told them it was my first bar, made me a drink and actually carried on a good conversation too.

It's trying to become a Complex

It has a newer owner and he bought the rest of the buliding I understand. They say it is being worked on and will open as a complex by the end of 2010.? But for now it is nice, clean, FRIENDLY and FUN!

Thursdays Rule

Thursday night has belonged to Menjo's for decades - and it still does. Sometimes a bit of a line on Thursdays, but $2.00 bottled beer and well drinks for your $5.oo cover charge. Lots of college guys. Twinky? a bit, but the crowd is very diverse in age and style. Dance floor is nice and music is decent. Previous and current owners have always been good community citizens. Weekday happy hour is very mellow with an older crowd that is very friendly!

Thursday nights only

Bored on a Thursday? Hit up Menjo's. Take advantage of parking on the West side of the building (if you follow the fence-line you WILL find the entrance to park your car in it) and park. The lot attendants will be there and tell you to "have a good time, we'll see you on the way out" meaning TIP THEM A COUPLE DOLLARS for watching your car for "free parking" (translated as TIP two dollars per car)!!! You walk in the club and it's def a "dance-themed" club. Nice atmosphere, sometimes the crowd is hit-or-miss as of lately although it had LEGENDARY status for Thursdays for a LONG time. It's still the only thing to do in Detroit on a Thursday. You can dance, play pool, sit in the lounge, or go outside in the completely enclosed outdoor atrium (nice in the summer/spring.) The crowd varies and it is five dollars for 18 and up. Its a darker themed bar on the inside. The music is very trendy. The bar staff is "so-so" depending on who you get and how they are doing that day. There's a couple straight bar-tenders but they have worked there for years and are very gay friendly. Used to be one of my favorite bars, but the crowd is hit or miss. Get there after Midnight for the best chance of seeing what it's like. Mixed crowd. Somewhat a "twink" looking bar, although if you look around, it's just at first glance. Remember, tip the lot attendents on the way out or park in Valet. Had my car broke into once from parking far down the street. (STUPID ME LOL)
